Understanding the Healthy Youth Survey

The Healthy Youth Survey collects information from students in grades 6–12 across Washington. Its findings help schools, families, and community organizations understand the challenges young people face and make informed decisions about prevention.

  • Tracks trends in youth mental health and substance use.

  • Identifies areas where students may need additional support.

  • Helps communities develop programs based on data rather than assumptions.

Looking Beyond the Numbers

The survey's findings offer reasons for both encouragement and continued action. According to Washington's 2025 Healthy Youth Survey results, about 26% of 10th graders reported depressive feelings, down from approximately 30% in 2023. The 2025 results also showed that around 6% reported vaping in the past 30 days, compared with nearly 8% in 2023.

These changes are encouraging, but they do not mean the work is finished. The survey also highlights the importance of supportive relationships. In 2025, 61% of 10th graders reported having an adult they could turn to when feeling sad or hopeless.

This finding matters because youth well-being is not shaped by individual choices alone. Access to trusted adults, supportive school environments, accurate information, and community resources can all make a difference.

How Influence the Choice Turns Data Into Action

By sharing research, connecting community members, and encouraging youth involvement, the organization helps turn survey findings into meaningful local action.

  • Raises awareness about youth substance-use prevention.

  • Encourages conversations among students, families, and educators.

  • Supports community efforts informed by Healthy Youth Survey findings.
